Shakori Hills intimate wedding in North Carolina
G&D’s Shakori Hills intimate wedding in North Carolina was a fun and floral gathering on local music festival grounds. The Shakori Hills Music Festival Grounds are known for its family friendly celebrations, and was the perfect wedding location for this folk music loving group.
These high school sweethearts wanted their day to have a relaxed and whimsical floral theme that everyone could be a part of. The couple chose not to have a wedding party during their day, which made the entire celebration feel very about them, casual and intimate. Instead, everyone showed up dressed for the theme: the entire party was a bouquet of floral outfits, dresses and accessories.
Market lights hung between large green trees, punctuated by a large circus tent for the reception. The couple incorporated lots of matching details, like the groom’s floral tie, floral wedding invites, and identical flower girl dresses. Since the groom is a passionate mountain biker, they even had a tandem bicycle covered in flowers, draped with a “welcome” sign!

As if planned, the grounds were also covered in vibrant wildflowers which we took FULL advantage of. We did G&D’s first look in a patch of yellow blossoms, and then moved to a row of exotic purple blooms for some additional portraits. We didn’t know it at the time, but the purple flowers are a night blooming species that symbolize true love!
The florals designed by The Cottens of @cotten_picked elevated the floral theme completely. The event was vibrant, upbeat and beautiful from start to finish.
The couple set up the wedding in the same layout as any music festival on the grounds would be: a designated spot for food, drinks and dancing. The result was an organized and laid back time that flew by.
During cocktail hour, everyone swayed to the beat of folk songs chosen by the bride and groom. The band that played after was even the same band that played at the bride’s parents wedding twenty fives years earlier. It was the perfect tribute to the family’s passion for folk music, and added a meaningful touch to this Shakori hills intimate wedding.
The bride’s sister made a tear jerker of a speech, the groom danced with his sister and the entire evening was a huge, happy party to the tune of uplifting, folksy music.
