Kelsey Mard is a documentary-style wedding and portrait photographer. She photographs both digitally and on film, with an emphasis on manifesting a timeless quality in her work. Her photographs gracefully capture fleeting yet momentous occasions, providing keepsakes you will cherish for years to come. Though Kelsey is based in Charlotte, NC, she is also a destination photographer who loves to travel.
Kelsey brings an artful and sensitive eye to photography that is both unique and refreshing. The atmosphere she achieves is soft with moments of high drama and elegance. Trained as a fine artist, Kelsey is always looking for the light when shooting and allows it to guide all of her artistic decision-making. As a result, her photos seem to glow from within. Colors are naturally rich and clear, textures distinctly emerge and even subtle movement is captured. She is careful to stay true-to-tone when processing her photos, leaving skin tones intact while also allowing for the softness and grain that typifies film photography. She is skilled at knowing when a moment calls for high contrast versus a gentler touch. Kelsey’s fine art training also helps her deftly compose her photographs. She makes use of architectural framing but knows when to pull back and capture natural vistas. She has a keen eye for detail, carefully documenting all the small choices that make up a wedding day. Floral arrangements, rings and stationery have as much of the story to tell as people and settings do.
Kelsey has a calming presence and a knack for tapping into the energy of her subjects in order to capture moments that convey their true essence. For wedding photography, she understands that every couple shows affection differently and she considers it her job to simply be there to capture golden moments of love, spontaneity and intimacy. She offers expert guidance with posing, helping her subjects find the light, but her specialty is making people feel so at ease that they may fall into the right pose naturally.
